Woodward Reservoir Update - September 24, 2026

South San Joaquin Irrigation District (SSJID) has announced that recreational access at Woodward Reservoir will be suspended beginning October 16, 2026.

​

In October 2025, the County received a one-year notice from SSJID of early termination of the longstanding License Agreement for recreation at Woodward Reservoir. Since the notice, the County has engaged with SSJID to address the complex operations and real property related to Woodward Reservoir. The County is dedicated to reaching a mutually agreeable resolution to ensure the future of recreation at Woodward Reservoir. At this time, the County remains in discussions with SSJID.

The County recognizes Woodward Reservoir’s importance to residents, local businesses and visitors. We are committed to working toward a resolution that protects the public’s interest in County-owned property and supports the return of recreational access as soon as possible.

Woodward Reservoir availability is limited as the early-termination date of October 15, 2026 approaches.

• Day Use: Main Marina, Muniz Point, and Office Point Day-use are open.

• Camping is available at Hackberry Flat, Muir Point, and T-Island through 2 p.m. on October 11th.

• Camp areas A through DD, Mountain View Point, Charlie’s Point, and Fischer Point are closed.​

Based on SSJID’s announcement, recreational access will be suspended beginning October 16th.

 

The County provides several recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike. Modesto Reservoir, La Grange Off-Highway Vehicle and Frank Raines Off-Highway Vehicle Parks, continue to offer opportunities to our community.

 

Coming soon, the County will re-open Turlock Lake State Recreation Area, adding another regional destination for the community to enjoy summer of 2027.
